Long File Names Need to be Enabled (Windows 98)

If you are receiving an error when installing Windows 98 that long file names need to enabled in order for Windows 98 to install successfully try this.

Open your registry and find the key below.

Look for an entry in the right pane named "NameNumericTail" and delete it.

Exit and reboot then retry the installation.

Settings:
System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem]
Name: NameNumericTail
Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
